Winter Nature Writing Course, Queen's University, Belfast
14/11/2011

Starting Tuesday 24 January  2012 for 10 weekly sessions
The natural world is a rich source of inspiration for writers. This course considers the range of possibilities in nature writing and shows how to make your own writing - whether fiction or non-fiction - come alive. We discuss how authors record, observe and portray nature, and we will study the form by looking at their style and inhaling perceptions. Some of the writers we will look at include Richard Mabey, Barry Lopez, Robert Macfarlane, Rachel Carson, J.A. Baker, Jim Perrin and Peter Matthiessen. We will also discuss nature poetry looking at the work of Seamus Heaney, Michael Longley and Norman MacCaig. Supportive feedback will be given to all participants and you are encouraged to write your own nature essay on a subject of your choice suitable for publication.
